Taylor: Some could keep TCU out of BCS title game through voting process

Jean-Jacques Taylor, columnist for SportsDayDFW.com and The Dallas Morning News, talked with The Ticket's Norm Hitzges, heard 10 a.m. to noon weekdays on KTCK-AM 1310 in Dallas, in an interview Friday. Some excerpts:

On if the BCS would ever allow TCU to play Boise in the championship game:

I think it's bigger than the BCS in some respects. The quick answer is no, although I think they should if that were to play out. But I think the problem is you'll get people messing with the voting. You'll get coaches or you'll get voters who go, 'Oh, I see where this is going,' and so instead of ranking TCU No. 3, let me move them down to No. 6 or No. 7. Let me move Boise State from 4, let me move them down to No. 8. You know, that way I can get a couple of more teams up in the polls, and then, whatever the polls have on it will help skew the final rankings. So I think you'll have people try and mess around with the votes and see how I can move and maneuver them to make sure they don't play. That's my consipracy theory.

On if the country wants to see TCU and Boise State play against each other again:

You don't believe that those are the two best teams in the country. That's the problem. You don't believe it. And that's really nobody's fault, because you can't blame Alabama for not wanting to play Boise State in Week 2 at the Georgia Dome. TCU and Boise can't get all of the big boys to play them on a regular basis, so that they can have some schedule. You can't really blame them because it's not my fault if I send out 50 questionnaires and nobody wants to send one back and play me. It doesn't do Ohio State any good to play TCU. If you beat them, you're supposed to beat them, and if you lose, what the heck is wrong with your program? It's not like basketball, and that's the beauty of the NCAA Tournament. Because you don't mind playing the best teams because a loss doesn't do anything because once you're in the tournament, it's all about what you do in the six games in the tournament.
